Do atheists go to Christian workshops and revival meetings?
At least one does.
His name is Dave Foda, who was raised Lutheran but forayed into evangelical Christianity in his teens. It didn’t take long before he was cognizant of the inconsistencies of faith, generally. Dave understands the nature of the perceived religious need of many individuals, but also understands that religious belief as a form of governance is damaging to the whole of society.
When it comes to religion as a form of governance, one of the criticisms of “secular society” is the teaching of the scientific theory of evolution. “God’s word is true. I’ve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell,” Georgia’s Republican Rep. Paul Broun infamously said earlier this year. “And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior.” Before the elections in 2012, a number of state Republican parties issued platform statements embracing Christian nationalism and other theocratic ideas repugnant to people who honor the separation of church and state.
To investigate the claims of young earth creationism and other ideals from the religious right, Dave has gone to the source – attending numerous Christian conferences and revival meetings to find out what is being taught and what the goals of Bible-believing fundamentalists are.
From the “Biblical worldview” to intelligent design, from Christian dominionism to faith healing, we’ll get a special glimpse into Christendom, as revealed by Dave Foda … and enjoy some never-before heard audios from a dominionist gathering.
Foda is an atheist, a writer, and a researcher, and sometimes-activist. He has a background in risk management, information security, and protective services; has some formal training in law, law enforcement, and linguistics; and is an IT systems engineer by trade. He has interests in physics, chemistry, biology, cosmology, archaeology, anthropology, history, languages, law and legal systems, and politics. His library shelves are stocked mostly with non-fiction.
Dave lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. You can find him on Facebook or follow him on Twitter @DaveFoda.
